Teeth & Magic: A Letter from Maginie

For parents and little ones who still believe in a little wonder...
I arrive when everything is asleep. When the hallway light is off, and the pillow hides its secret. Sometimes it’s a tooth, neatly wrapped in tissue. Sometimes it’s a little messy, but there’s a drawing. Or a note that says, “Fairy, are you real? ”
Yes, I am. My name is Maginie. I’m the Tooth Fairy. And I have a very special job.
Every night, I collect baby teeth. Not to keep in a box, but to turn into something magical. You see, those tiny teeth become dream dust - the kind that helps children fall asleep peacefully, dream sweetly, and wake up feeling warm and safe.
Dream dust is soft as a cloud. Almost invisible. It smells a little like mint and moonlight and something familiar - like your favorite blanket or your mother’s hug. I carry it in a silver pouch and scatter it through the night. That’s what turns ordinary sleep into adventures: flying on pillows, talking to animals, or walking through candy towns.
But here’s a little secret - not all teeth make the same dust. The brightest, most magical dream dust comes from clean teeth. The ones brushed before bed. The ones that aren’t covered in cookie crumbs or “I don’t wanna.”
Those teeth sing when I pick them up. They shine. They whisper, “I’m ready to be part of the magic.”
And if a tooth isn’t very clean? That’s okay. It still works. It just makes a softer kind of dust. Not bad. Just... a little quieter.
That’s why brushing isn’t just a routine. It’s an invitation for me. When a child picks up their toothbrush and takes their time, I feel it. I notice.
I even write it down. Yes - I keep a book. No one’s seen it, but it’s real. In it, I write things like:
“Sophia, age 5. Brushed twice. Smiled in the mirror. Her dust was golden.”
“Eli, age 7. Left a note that said, ‘Sorry I forgot. I’ll do better tomorrow.’ His dust was honest. Warm.”
I always leave something in return. A coin. A note. A sparkle of glitter. Sometimes, just silence - the kind that says everything.
But what I carry away is just as important. And what I leave behind - that feeling that something magical happened here tonight - that matters most.
Because this isn’t just about teeth. It’s about care. And kindness. And the truth that magic doesn’t just happen. It shows up where someone makes room for it. Where someone believes.
And yes - I always come back. To the places where I’m remembered. Where teeth are brushed. Where I’m thought of just before bedtime.
And that means - you already know how to be part of the magic.
With love,your Maginie
